Thursday 4 April Nagasaki

Had to go through Japanese immigration and be fingerprinted then onto coach for tour.  Went to Atomic peace park quite impressive, huge monument and you could see the walls of the prison which was totally eradicated only about 6 inches of wall remains sticking up out of the ground.  The one legged Tori gate was not that impressive and the view from the mountain at the back of Nagasaki was too foggy.

When I got back I walked up to Glover Gardens where one of the first Europeans built their houses.  There are moving walkways, escalators to you and me, but these were out of action.  I went anyway, sore knee may as well make it sorer.  Well worth it.  The view was fantastic and you could really see the houses clinging to the mountains/hills.  I had lunch there - pointing is good - hot dog with lettuce??? and green tea. The street back down is very steep and lined with shops both sides.  I nearly got the fish massage but the steps down to the shop were very uneven and I was too tired to do that.  Back on the ship they had a cultural display but I had a Nana nap and missed it.  As we left lots of people came out to wave and some schoolgirls played and some did a performance.  Big banner for Diamond Princess to welcome her back as she was built here.
This is the peace statue.  He is pointing to the sky to say what happened and the arm pointing out is asking for help

These two ladies were at the pier when we left the ship.

These are the two houses for the thousand cranes, people make chains of cranes and leave them here

This is all that was left of the prison buildings after the bomb fell.

Diamond Princess from Glover Gardens

The most beautiful gardens, well worth it.
