Got in quite early, overcast but not raining. Docked in middle of Junk Harbour with tender service to Hong Kong Island 45 mins. Got off about 9.30 and then took the Hop On Hop Off bus, didn't do the big bus but went with Rickshaw bus, $50 HK for all day. That is about $6.50. Went to Man Mo Temple, an old temple with huge highrise buildings all around it. Walked down antiques street and saw all the things I would like in my home if I win Lotto of course.
Surprised at how hilly and steep it is, you need to do your fitness exercise before coming here.
Took Star Ferry across to Kowloon, $2 HK token about 25 cents. Walked around a lot looking at different things. Too late to get ferry/tender back to ship and back for my night tour so went to big mall. Not my scene, too many up market shops but nice to look around.
Night tour we went to Hollywood walk, through the underground tunnel which runs below the harbour, bit like Clem 7 really. Hollywood walk is like LA with all the stars handprints and names. Saw Jacky Chang and Bruce Lee and lots of other who I had no idea about. Then with instructions to meet at Cocktail? no idea what he was talking about, then it became clear, Clock Tower we went off to a chinese banquet. Lovely so many dishes and I tried to use chopsticks. They kept bringing out duck after duck after duck and one girl just kept carving them. then they came to the table and made your peking duck by wrapping the duck in the pancake with shallot and sauce and presenting it to you. Very nice.
We then walked back to viewing area for the light show, bit hyped up I was a bit disappointed with it. Then onto Night Market, a lot of stalls all sold the same things. Bought "Jade" earrings for about $8 Australian. At that price I know they are "real jade".
Next morning raining. Tour left at 9.15. Ship had relocated this morning to the cargo area so lots of containers and ships all around. Bus went first to Aberdeen where we had a ride on a Sampan then onto Stanley markets where I had to buy an umbrella, not good enough still getting wet, couldn't do the markets I was squelching in my shoes so I just went back to bus. Started ot clear up a bit when we got to Victoria Peak but still misty. Caught the glass elevator up to viewing deck. Then tram down the hill. Had to sit backwards so couldn't see where you were going. It was OK, very steep. From there back to ship. I was very tired and had a sleep.
At 8 pm the Captain negotiated with port authorities to take the ship through the harbour just as the light show was starting. It was good but so windy and raining. Still not impressed even with a second viewing.
Pouring rain when I went to bed at 9 pm.
